Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Confined Circular Concrete Columns: An Experimental Overview

Fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs) are widely used as composite materials in civil engineering applications to rehabilitate or strengthen reinforced-concrete structural elements. The purpose of this study was compile an extensive and up-to-date experimental database based on the compressive tests conducted circular confined concrete elements using FRP materials. Strict criteria were implemented during collection data minimize uncertainty maximize uniformity. In order compare results, collected divided into two categories type confinement, namely wrapped tube encased. A detailed 1470 test results FRP-confined cylindrical specimens demonstrated specimens’ geometry, jacketing materials’ physical mechanical properties, effect confinement axial strength strain. analysis led important observations parameters that influence concrete’s behavior. unconfined seems be inversely related efficiency. efficiency is quite limited high-strength specimens. Carbon fibers tend provide greater effectiveness, while rigidity found contribute significantly confinement. Glass aramid seem perform equally well, regardless method. An interesting finding FRP-wrapped similarly tube-encased terms increases strength, latter associated with larger ultimate strains.
